Lyft is expanding to Toronto.

Lyft service will be available in Toronto by the holidays.

"We have had our sights set on global expansion for months, and the Canadian market is an obvious fit for Lyft's culture, values and the service that we provide", Lyft CEO Logan Green said in a statement to CNN Tech.

"We think Lyft's values align really well with Toronto's and we know there's demand", he said in an interview.

In an effort to entice drivers, Lyft is offering a 25 percent bonus for the first 3,000 drivers who are approved and who complete 20 rides a week during the company's first three months of operation in Toronto.

Turning Points: One big hit swings momentum in Browns' loss to Lions
For the second straight game, the Browns got off to a hot start, and it had a little bit to do with both sides of the ball. Matt Prater kicked a 46-yard field goal before Abdullah's 8-yard scoring run capped a 90-yard drive to tie it.

The service will actually expand outside the city's boundaries, operating between Hamilton and Oshawa, Ont., and as far north as Newmarket, Ont. LyftLine, which allows passengers heading to the same destination to share a ride for a discount, will be added at a later time.

"Lyft has grown considerably this past year, and Toronto was a no brainer for the company's first worldwide launch". Uber, by comparison, was in more than 450 cities across the globe at the time.

The ride-hailing service says it's recruiting drivers starting Monday in Canada's largest city and expects to begin service sometime in December.

Uber also considered pulling out of Quebec.

The move follows the controversial launch of rival Uber in Toronto a few years ago, which saw protests by taxi drivers.
