Lucasfilm Is Very Confident In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson to create new Star Wars trilogy

"The Last Jedi", which follows on from 2015's hit film "The Force Awakens" and is expected to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will be in theaters on December 15.

This latest Star Wars saga isn't even over and it's already been announced that Disney has another trilogy in store for the saga that happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

As viewers speculate what the Johnson Trilogy (as we're unofficially calling it) will be about, the timing of Lucasfilm's release is no coincidence.

Disney shares rose more than 1 percent after Chief Executive Bob Iger said Disney had struck a deal with Rian Johnson, director of upcoming film "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", to create a new trilogy in the blockbuster science fiction series.

Johnson will be joined by producer, and a longtime collaborator of his, in Ram Bergman in crafting the new trilogy of new characters.

Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm for $4 billion in 2012, it has rolled out two films, with a third, "The Last Jedi", coming in December. He will write and direct the first movie in the new trilogy, which Lucasfilm has not announced a timeline for.

Kinsler misses out on Gold Glove
The 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards have been handed out, and this year's list of winners features more than a few familiar faces. Braves centerfielder Ender Inciarte and Red Sox right fielder both won their second-consecutive Gold Glove.

That's high praise indeed when you consider Kennedy has butted heads with other directors who have contributed to Star Wars in recent years.

Variety additionally reported that a liver-action Star Wars television series is in the works and will premiere on Disney's new streaming service, which is set to launch by the end of 2019.

Ms Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said in a statement: "Rian will do unbelievable things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy".

The Last Jedi, which follows on from 2015's hit film The Force Awakens and is expected to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will be in theatres in Singapore on Dec 14.

But a new trilogy will go beyond the original nine-film framework imagined by Lucas.
