Niantic Is Developing Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, An Augmented Reality Game

Developer of the incredibly popular mobile Pokemon AR game, Pokemon GO, looks set to be tackling the wizarding world of Harry Potter in an upcoming project. The report also points out that Niantic Labs is co-developing this game with Warner Bros.

On many players' minds, surely, is whether or not Niantic will be more supportive and responsive to their install base than they were during Pokémon Go. Interactive and its brand new sub-brand Portkey Games.

Not much is known about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which was revealed today, but it sounds like it has some similar features to Pokémon Go. A similar rumor past year was thought to be a false alarm at the time, though Niantic did acknowledge that the company had the rights to create such a game.

Partnering with Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment and WB Games the game is still under construction.

It's the first game from a new studio dedicated to creating games in the "Harry Potter" universe. The game will take advantage of the technology featured in Pokemon Go and Ingress and allow you to travel around while discovering mysterious artifacts, learning to cast spells, and encountering legendary beasts and characters. Ingress is a game that allows players to move around in parks and streets and lets you power-up and defend captured locations.

"With Portkey Games, we are thrilled to answer the fans' requests for more games inspired by J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World", WBIE president David Haddad said.

For now, details about the game are scant, but we'll hear more about it in 2018.

We can just see hordes of wannabe witches and wizards rampaging through the streets as they say Accio, Expelliarmus and Reducto.
