'Autocrat' Modi destroyed India's booming economy: Rahul Gandhi

PM Narendra Modi has said GST and demonetisation will help India in the long run

PM Narendra Modi has said GST and demonetisation will help India in the long run

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already said that loopholes and shortcomings in the GST would be removed and the process is on.

Congress and other Opposition parties have made a decision to observe November 8, the date when Prime Minister Narendra Modi a year ago announced demonetisation, as "Black Day". Ahead of assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Rahul has been cornering the Prime Minister over demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Gandhi, who spent the day visiting various textile and diamond units here, said that industries in Surat have the potential to compete with those in China but the government "destroyed" them.

The Congress and the the BJP engaged in a slugfest on Wednesday after Rahul Gandhi tweeted a photo of former army man Nand Lal to emphasize the hardships people faced after Narendra Modi announced demonetisation previous year.

Terming demonetisation a "tragedy", Gandhi, whose party is today observing "black day" on the anniversary of the decision, tweeted a last year's photograph of Nand Lal in which the septuagenarian former army soldier appeared anguished as he stood in a queue to withdraw currency after the note ban. He has chosen to hide behind a shallow, hate-filled political narrative.

"Modi has damaged India by converting anger created by joblessness and lack of economic opportunity into communal hatred".

"Anger might have brought Mr Modi to power but it will never create jobs or fix India's institutions", he concludes.

"Taking a dig at the government, Rahul also tweeted in Hindi, "Ek aansu bhi hukumat ke liye khatra hai, tumne dekha nahin aankhon ka samundar hona" (Even a single tear is a danger for the government, you have not seen eyes turning into an ocean)".

Hitting out at the government over the new indirect tax regime rolled out on July 1 this year, Gandhi said, "We told (Prime Minister) Narendra Modiji and (Union Finance Minister) Arun Jaitleyji not to implement the GST in this way".

"China's global monopoly on blue collar jobs is a fundamental challenge to other states". It has ruined the lives of millions of hard-working Indians.
