Shortly before the start of Florida State University's Parents' Weekend, the school placed a ban on fraternities and sororities following the death of a student, USA Today reports.

First responders found a pledge to Florida State University's Pi Kappa Phi fraternity dead the morning after an off-campus party this week.

Police said there were indications Coffey may have died due to alcohol, but authorities were waiting for the autopsy results before determining how he died.

FSU said the suspension also is in response to the arrest on Monday of a 20-year-old member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity for the sale and trafficking of cocaine. FSU President Thrasher says the ban on Greek life will stay in place until there is a new culture in place for the organizations.

Kevin Spacey Netflix severs ties; House of Cards and Gore cancelled
Netflix has severed ties with Kevin Spacey in the wake of increasing sexual assault and harassment allegations against the actor. After the charges against Spacey were publicized, Netflix said it had previously planned to end House of Cards after season six.

Thrasher said members of sororities and fraternities will be allowed to remain in chapter houses during the suspension, which won't end until determined by the student community, according to the statement. All operations of FSU's Pi Kappa Phi chapter were suspended, and the members of the chapter were directed to cooperate fully with all investigative efforts, the national organization said.

"I want to send a serious message, I really do", said Thrasher. "Unfortunately we've got to take steps with our students, to make sure this never happens again". "We appreciate the partnership and support from the Division of Student Affairs during this hard time".

Florida State is at least the third university this year to suspend Greek life because of alcohol-related tragedies. They also cannot have any organized participation in homecoming activities, which are scheduled for next week.
