Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) demanded that Sessions clarify his past statements and Sen.

Page, who left the Trump campaign not long after the trip, has been questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and has also appeared before a grand jury as part of the special counsel Robert Mueller's inquiry.

Franken asked Sessions during his confirmation hearing on Jan 10 what he would do "if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign".

Carter Page met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich while in Moscow in July 2016, the former foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump's campaign confirmed to CNN on Friday.

"What happens if you get a new Attorney General - and the Democrats can't blame the president because they are the ones pushing them out - and then this new guy comes and says, 'Guess what?"

Sessions made similar denials in two subsequent hearings before Congress on Russian Federation since taking office.

In testimony before the Senate in June, Sessions said he did not "recall" any meetings between campaign associates and Russian officials.

Mark Zuckerberg Promises Radical Ad Transparency as Facebook Profit Rockets
Another catalyst during the quarter more than made up for slow growth in ad load: Ad prices increased 35% year over year. Zuckerberg said Facebook's recently launched Watch tab is an example of how it is capitalizing on this opportunity.

During a news conference in February, Trump said he knew of nobody from his campaign who was in contact with Russians during the election.

"He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he can not seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions", Leahy, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, told The New York Times.

Papadopoulos was named by Trump as a member of his foreign policy advisory panel in March 2016, when the candidate was trying to bolster his credentials as he moved to secure the Republican nomination for president.

A New York Times report on Tuesday quoted a participant as saying that Sessions "shut George down", ruled there should be no meeting with Putin and ordered those present "not to speak about this again". Other aides were wary of the idea before Sessions himself "spoke vehemently against the idea" and asked others not to discuss it, the Times reported earlier this week.

Lieu said Sessions should resign from his post because "the top law enforcement official in the United States cannot have committed a crime and still be there". White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday that he held an "extremely limited" role in the campaign and described him as a "volunteer" that did nothing in an "official capacity".

But on Thursday, a person familiar with Sessions' recollections said that "people who remember the conversation" believed that Papadopoulos was proposing an idea of using his Russian contacts to try to set up a meeting between Trump and Putin, "which was immediately rejected by then-Senator Sessions".
