Obama Returns To Campaign Trail Since Departure From White House

Former President Obama campaigns with Ralph Northam

Obama will first drop in on campaign workers in Newark, New Jersey, for Democratic candidate Phil Murphy and then head to Richmond to help boost Democrat Ralph Northam.

"President Obama was directly responsible for some of the disastrous policies that hurt Missourians over the previous eight years, and they should remember that in 2018 when they go to the polls and decide if they want one of his biggest supporters still representing them in the U.S. Senate", said Jeremy Adler, spokesman for Missouri Rising Action, a Republican super PAC which is backing state Attorney General Josh Hawley's challenge to Ms. McCaskill in 2018.

Addressing a cheering crowd in Newark, New Jersey, Mr Obama said: "What we can't have is the same old politics of division that we have seen so many times before, that dates back centuries".

The former President of the United States called on voters to reject a growing "politics of division" that he said was damaging American democracy.

"I don't know if y'all noticed, but you can't take any election for granted", Obama said, "I don't care what the polls say".

Northam leads Ed Gillespie, the republican candidate, in the polls, but a new poll from Christopher Newport University shows a tightening race with a four point lead for Northam. "If you don't like how things are going, you gotta vote". "You won't be able to unite them later if that's how you start".

Like Mr Obama, Mr Bush did not name Mr Trump, but he attacked some of the principles that define the 45th president's political brand. Ralph Northam wants progress. He is nothing more than a Washington lobbyist who has now become Donald Trump's chief lobbyist.

He was later sentenced to three years' imprisonment by a military court on charges of illegally entering Pakistan and "spying". Shahzadi's family suffered a tragedy in March 2016 when her teenaged brother, distraught over her kidnapping, hanged himself.

"Some of the politics we see now we thought we put that to bed", Obama said.

New Jersey Democrat Phil Murphy, Obama's former ambassador to Germany, is facing Republican Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno.

Urging the crowd to vote Democratic in down-ticket races, Obama gave several shout-outs to Justin Fairfax, the party's nominee for lieutenant governor.

It was Gillespie's ads, which critics have said veer into racial fear-mongering, that drew the strongest rebuke from Obama on Thursday night.

"I don't think anybody really thinks that somebody who spent his life performing surgery on soldiers and children suddenly is cozying up to street gangs", said Obama, referring to Northam's career as a U.S. Army doctor and pediatric neurologist.

"What he's really trying to deliver is fear", Obama continued.

On the issue of Confederate statues, which were pushed to the forefront of the campaign after this summer's violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Gillespie has acknowledged the South was "on the wrong side of history" by fighting to preserve slavery, but has said he believes statues should stay up and be put in proper historical context. "You can't take anything for granted; you can't sit this one out", Obama said. "We rise up by learning from the past", Mr. Obama said. "He fires up Democratic voters and reminds independent voters of having someone in the White House who was actually capable of being president". "That's folks looking 50 years back, it's the 21st century, not the 19th century", Obama said.
