J&K 2 terrorists killed in Pulwama encounter

"Waseem Shah was Lashkar's district commander and one of the 'notorious'militants operating in South Kashmir".

The encounter took place in the Litter village in Pulwama.

The forces launched an operation in Litter area of Pulwama in the morning following information about the presence of the militants in the area, a police official said. "Well done JKP boys and other SF (security forces)", J-K's Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid tweeted.

The encounter started when the terrorists opened fire at the security forces.

IGP termed killing of Waseem as a major achievement for security forces and severe jolt to Lashkar.

Shah, a resident of Heff-Shrimal in Shopian, joined militancy in 2014 and was considered as the "chief architect" of last year's unrest in various parts of South Kashmir.

Later, people staged protest against the brutal killing of the youth chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, Kashmir Media Service reported.

As news of the militants' death spread, people from adjoining villages gathered in large numbers and pelted stones at security forces. One of the deceased has been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir, who was rushed to the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar where he succumbed to his injuries.

So far no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A police spokesman said the policemen were returning to Kulgam after dropping PDP MLA Abdul Majid Padder at his residence in Noorabal in Damhal Hanjipora when militants attacked their vehicle at Nadimarg morh in Kulgam in the evening.
