Trump on Iran nuke accord: It's the 'worst deal. We got nothing'

She noted that the worldwide community, including the European Union and other USA allies, will continue to abide by the deal even if Trump chooses not to certify Iran's compliance, something which has been confirmed eight times by the global Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). If he does not certify Iran's compliance to the conditions of the deal than congress will have to re-impose sanctions against Iran within 60 days.

Donald Trump is expected to disavow the Iran nuclear deal in a speech on Friday denouncing the government in Tehran, but will not call for the reimposition of sanctions that would have risked the collapse of the agreement, according to officials briefed on the president's intentions. Trump is expected to declare that the deal is not in America's national interest.

If Trump does decertify the accord as expected, it would put him at odds with Defense Secretary James Mattis, who last week said Tehran was "fundamentally" in compliance with the agreement and that the US should stick with the pact.

She said that U.S. would lose global trust "because a deal that America voted for just two years ago in the UN Security Council with a resolution unanimously adopted, a deal that America helped to shape enormously, enormously, would be rejected by the same country".

Former Obama administration officials who played central roles in brokering the Iran nuclear agreement briefed congressional Democrats later Wednesday on the merits of the global accord.

She pointed to other global agreements that the U.S. has abandoned but the rest of the world has remained committed to, including the Paris Agreement on climate change, and said, "What will happen would simply be that the USA will contravene a UNSC resolution and the rest of the world will stick to it".

Trump is also expected to seek amendments in the existing deal with respect to the requirement for the U.S. president to re-certify Iran's compliance every 90 days.

However, with the agreement in place and strongly supported by co-signers Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China, many Republicans who still abhor the pact nevertheless do not want to blow it up for fear that doing so would erode USA credibility.

Iran has already threatened the U.S. with dire consequences if it imposes sanctions against the country.

Who's moron here? Trump teases Tillerson over IQ
Nevertheless, something about the incident still seems to bother Trump, who was due to have lunch with Tillerson at the White House later on Tuesday.

A Twitter feud that erupted this week between Trump and Corker could complicate the efforts by the influential Republican to broker a deal that would likely require both Democratic and Republican support.

Trump has threatened to scrap the agreement, calling it the "worst deal ever". "Once it was entered into, once it was implemented, we want to see it enforced". If any points of the agreement are violated by Iran, sanctions against the country will be renewed.

But Iranian officials have already ruled out any renegotiation of the deal. He also wants to toughen language on ballistic missiles and inspections.

Trump is CREATING A CRISIS if he decertifies.

"What Trump is doing is opening a very unnecessary "Pandora's box" of troubles at a time when he is unable to competently handle the crisis with North Korea's nuclear program", said Daryl Kimball, executive director of the Arms Control Association, which supports the Iran deal. If those sanctions are put back into place, the JCPOA would be considered breached.

Who says they are not holding up their end of the deal?

If the USA chose to reimpose nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, it would be in breach of the JCPOA.

What exactly that will look like is still being determined, but it could include greater congressional oversight.
