THE Uefa Nations League could turn into a repeat of the Carling Nations Cup - with Ireland being potentially grouped with Northern Ireland and Wales.

There is also an opportunity to earn qualification to Euro 2020, as the top four-ranked League B teams who do not qualify will enter play-offs in March 2020 with one finals place on offer.

Elsewhere, League A consists of the 12 top-ranked teams: Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Spain, France, England, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Iceland, Croatia and the Netherlands.

The group matches will be played in September, October and November next year.

"How teams perform in the Nations League will be used to determine which pots they will be placed in for future European qualifiers for the Euros and the World Cup", the Sun said.

The results of the past week's World Cup qualifiers cemented each country's starting position in the Nations League - a biennial four-division tournament which replaces friendly matches from September.

The Republic of Ireland are in League B along with Austria, Wales, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Northern Ireland, Denmark, Czech Republic and Turkey.

For the time being, the ring on silenced phones will only work on Android devices, while iPhones can only be found via phone call. Of course, we can likely expect an appearance by the new Pixelbook, potentially alongside older Google devices like Chromecast.

The League Phase Draw for the UEFA Nations League will take place in Lausanne on 24 January 2018. The four group-winning teams in the division groups will progress to a final round to determine a champion.

A weird new system will see the four best placed teams in each group who have not qualified for Euro 2020 take part in a play-off with one spot at the tournament each allocated to the four groups.

Countries will be split into four groups of three, with each team facing each other at home and away.

League C contains Hungary, Romania, Scotland, Slovenia, Greece, Serbia, Albania, Norway, Montenegro, Israel, Bulgaria, Finland, Cyprus, Estonia and Lithuania.

The national teams of Ukraine and Russian Federation will be divided into different groups.

League D: Azerbaijan, Macedonia, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Latvia, Faroe Islands, Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Liechtenstein, Malta, Andorra, Kosovo, San Marino, Gibraltar.

The new UEFA Nations League stems from the desire of UEFA and its 55 member associations to improve the quality and standing of national team football.
