Kony is being sought by the ICC for crimes against humanity. He is the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a rebel group whose atrocities were the subject of a 2012 documentary that has more than 100 million views.

In one email sent by Moreno Ocampo, leaked to the French investigative website Mediapart and seen by The Sunday Times, he claims that Jolie "has the idea to invite Kony to dinner and then arrest him". She would love to stop Kony. "She is ready. Probably Brad [Pitt] will go also", he said in another email.
