Ryanair to cancel more flights

Britain's aviation regulator said on Friday that Ryanair (RYA.I) had "capitulated" to pressure to inform passengers hit by flight cancellations of their rights, and would keep pushing the airline to fully compensate them.

Ryanair has updated the FAQ pages of its website to reflect all of these changes and has also replied to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) letter of September 28, agreeing to meet its requirement for customer clarification on Ryanair's EU261 obligations, which are in line with those requested by the vehicle.

It agreed that passengers affected by the thousands of flight cancellations do have the right, not just to a refund, or to being rerouted on a Ryanair flight but, in certain circumstances, to a ticket on an alternative airline.

The Irish low-priced airline will finalize 25 of their 400 aircraft between November and March 25 to eliminate the "possibility" of being forced to "cancel more flights" in the future.

But Frank Brehany told Julia Hartley-Brewer that he has asked regular Ryanair users "is this going to put you off?" and "the blunt answer was no, because they enjoy the price and the flexibility".

It had accused Ryanair of not telling passengers that under EU261 rules they were entitled to be re-routed by another carrier.

The airline faces an investigation after scrapping another 18,000 flights this winter, leading to accusations it had "cancelled Christmas" for 400,000 passengers.

Ryanair's Kenny Jacobs said: 'We apologise again sincerely for the disruption and inconvenience our rostering failure has caused some of our customers'.

"If they follow through on what they are saying, then they would be breaking the law".

RYANAIR announced that return flights between Dublin and Birmingham (FR 664 and FR 665), Paris Beauvais (FR 22 and FR 23) and Barcelona (FR 3977 and FR 3976) on Mondays between November and March will be cancelled.

Among 34 routes suspended by Ryanair include London Stansted to Edinburgh and Glasgow, Gatwick to Belfast and Newcastle to Faro. It appears that Ryanair has now capitulated.

Ryanair confirmed yesterday that it is to cancel 22 flights a week to and from Dublin, between November 1 and March 24.

The budget airline said it had taken on more extra staff to process the expected increase in customer claims.

Earlier: The Taoiseach has said he expects Ryanair to ensure that passengers' rights are protected.
