Michelle Williams In Talks to Join Tom Hardy in 'Venom' Movie

Sony's upcoming Venom movie is reportedly close to casting an Oscar-nominated actress for a lead role opposite Tom Hardy.

Venom is shaping up to be a unusual one, with Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) directing, and Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinker (The Dark Tower) scripting the comic book adaptation.

Williams is in talks with Sony to costar in Venom as a district attorney and possibly Hardy's love interest, Variety reports. Sony declined to comment.

Recent rumors indicated that the Venom movie will cast Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens actor Ahmed as Carnage, a variant of the alien symbiote that became popular in the 1990s, but nothing has been confirmed regarding his role. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are writing the script.

In the comics, the character of Venom is inherently associated with Spider-Man. That film was initially expected to spawn a solo Venom movie, but the planned spinoff never materialized.

But what's surprising in the spat between Google and Amazon is the extent to which the stories diverge. For now, Google is saying it hopes to reach an agreement with Amazon to resolve the issues soon.

If this is true, then she may be playing Anne Weying, Eddie Brock's wife in the Marvel Comics Universe.

Here's the thing: Fleischer is not an exciting director in the least bit (I mean, have you seen fucking Gangster Squad), but still has a knack for attracting big names to his genre projects.

Venom made his first appearance on the big screen in Sam Raimis "Spider-Man 3" and was played by actor Topher Grace. In any event, this is certainly an excuse to take Venom to some darker places away from the MCU, much like the highly successful R-rated superhero films recently released by 20th Century Fox with Deadpool and Logan.

Production begins this fall on Venom and it is set for an October 5, 2018 release date.
