Cubs shortstop Addison Russell surprised a Cardinals fan with a food delivery last night at Busch Stadium.

As hard as it's been to accept, there's no denying the Cubs have unseated the Cardinals as the current NL Central standard.

A few innings later, Russell walked over to Gudermuth with a new tray of nachos provided to him by the Busch Stadium staff. Russell even stayed to allow Gudermuth to take a quick picture, which the fan later posted on Twitter.

Lester, who fought command and velocity issues in his most recent starts, looked strong enough Monday to suggest his final start, Saturday against the Reds, should serve as little more than a tuneup for a Game 1 or 2 start against the Nationals next week in the playoffs. A win or a Brewers loss will give them their second consecutive division crown. They trail the Colorado Rockies by 2 1/2 games for the NL's second wild card. Carlos Martinez will start for St. Louis.

The authorities declared the building unsafe, but allowed tenants to go grab what they could at their own risk. The 17,797-foot (5,426-meter) volcano has been periodically erupting since 1994.

Veteran lefty Jon Lester was just what Chicago needed him to be in spite of his entering the game with a 4.56 ERA. The @Cubs shortstop makes things right.

You have to give Lester credit: He hits it right on the nose here. The Cubs have scored 18 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 10 of their last 13 games.

Never mind the fact the batter who hit the nacho-killing foul ball, Jedd Gyorko, followed with a home run off Jon Lester with one out in the second.

The Cubs added two runs in the eighth to complete the scoring. Jake Arrieta gets the ball, and he is 14-9 with a 3.43 ERA and 159 strikeouts this season. He is 8-3 with a 2.03 ERA in 16 career starts against the Cardinals. Chicago leads the season series 11-4.

Cubs: Baez was back in the starting lineup.
