"We urge the government of Myanmar to ensure the return of all internally displaced persons (IDPs) with safety and dignity to Rakhine state, including the restoration of their status since the revocation of their rights in 1982", he said, adding that this was to ensure that the Rohingya's "unjustifiable statelessness" be reversed.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The US will provide a humanitarian aid package worth almost $32 million to Rohingya who have fled violence in Myanmar's Rakine State in recent weeks, the State Department announced Wednesday during the United Nations General Assembly in NY.

Myanmar considers the Rohingya illegal migrants from Bangladesh and refuses them citizenship, even though many have lived there for decades.

The United Nations has termed it "ethnic cleansing".

"Keeping the peace requires more than peacekeeping - it requires action, reform and, lastly, it also requires a willingness to call out senseless attacks on innocent people around the world".

"It is important for us to see with our own eyes the sites of these alleged violations", the head of UN-backed fact-finding mission, Marzuki Darusman, told the Human Rights Council, asking for "full and unfettered access to the country", news outlets reported.

According to an estimate by the United Nations, around four lakh Rohingyas have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh in the last three weeks.

The Myanmar military has been accused of the widespread burning of villages, rape and killings during its offensive.

The crisis has prompted a global chorus of condemnation against the country's de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi for refusing to blame Myanmar's powerful military for the crackdown.

In an address to Burma and the worldwide community on Tuesday, State Counsellor Suu Kyi professed that "Myanmar does not fear global scrutiny" and repeatedly invited "friends" who "wish Myanmar well" to visit the country and help its process of democratisation and peacebuilding. The address marks the first time Suu Kyi has spoken about the recent crisis. Almost 15,000 have received refugee documentation, according to the United Nations, but India wants to deport them all.

Pence repeated a U.S. call for the military to end the violence and support diplomatic efforts for a long-term solution for the Rohingya, who are denied citizenship in a country where many Buddhists regard them as illegal immigrants.

However, the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights is opposing the move by describing it as "inhuman" and "anti-human".

Myanmar police fired warning shots to disperse a mob who threw petrol bombs at them and tried to block an ICRC boat in the conflict-hit Rakhine state, where tens of thousands are believed to be in urgent need of aid, state-backed media said Thursday.

"We are not yet seeing any improvement on the ground and we continue to hear reports of violence and suffering", the diplomat said in a statement.
