Fiat Chrystler Recalls Nearly 500K Dodge Ram Trucks Over Fire Risk

In addition to Ram 2500 and 3500 models, the company's 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs are also being recalled.

The company said on Tuesday that some Ram trucks may be fitted with a water-pump bearing that could overheat and possibly cause a fire in the engine compartment. All 494,417 of the vehicles involved have 6.7-liter engines.

So Fiat Chrysler is recalling nearly 50,000 Pacifica vans in the US and Canada from the 2017 and 2018 model years. The recall is associated with the water pump, which could cause a fire under certain conditions.

The recall affects about 443,712 trucks in the United States, 46,220 in Canada and 4,485 outside North America.

FCA said defective water pumps in 2013-2017 model years of these vehicles equipped with 6.7-liter engines may "overheat and potentially cause an engine fire". There have been no reports of accidents or injuries to date.

"Compromised water-pump function may activate a warning light in an affected vehicle's instrument cluster". The company will inspect and potentially replace the water pump.

Owners will receive a notice from Fiat Chrysler when service is available.
