The United States will stand by Britain as it exits the European Union, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Thursday after a meeting with British foreign minister Boris Johnson in London.

"We had hoped for a much stronger resolution", Tillerson said of the latest U.N. Security Council sanctions on North Korea, which the United States supported in the face of Chinese opposition to stronger sanctions. "In effect, that is directed at China alone because China supplies essentially all of North Korea's oil".

Tillerson's policy adviser Brian Hook said the Secretary of State "never misses an opportunity in bilateral, multilateral settings to raise North Korea and the need to increase pressure on North Korea".

Tillerson says it was going to be "very difficult" to get China to agree to an oil embargo.

These continued provocations only deepen North Korea's diplomatic and economic isolation, he added.

On the Iran nuclear deal, which is viewed sceptically in Washington, May was "underlining its importance in preventing Iran from procuring nuclear weapons", the spokesman said.

The victim managed to wrestle him to the ground and he was arrested by armed police as he shouted ISIS slogans. The man was taken to the main Chateletpolice station, and now faces a range of terrorist charges.

Tillerson recalled the preamble of the agreement, which expected the deal "will positively contribute to regional and worldwide peace and security", and contrasted it with the regime's continued malign activity in the region.

The administration in July said it would utilize a broader approach to tackle Iran's "malign activities" outside of the nuclear deal, several of which the reported strategy appeared to confront.

Britain has been a vocal supporter of tough new sanctions imposed at the United Nations Security Council after a series of North Korean nuclear tests.

The Foreign Secretary will discuss the response to Hurricane Irma with the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and the French Political Director Nicolas de Rivière. It has been characterized by many as ethnic cleansing.

Commenting on violence in Myanmar against the minority Rohingya population, Tillerson said the country faced a defining moment.
