Trump orders removal of all Kaspersky products from their networks and agencies

Homeland Security says it fears Russian Federation could gain access to info that would put USA national security at risk.

The DHS recently ordered all USA agencies to remove products from the Russia-based Kaspersky Lab from their systems within 90 days.

After months of calling the company out for its alleged connections to the Russian government, Department of Homeland Security acting secretary Elaine Duke issued a binding operational directive ordering federal civilian agencies to identify and remove Kaspersky Lab software from their network.

This follows the US government raising concerns that the company is "vulnerable to influence from the Kremlin", and giving federal agencies 90 days to stop using Kaspersky security software and remove it from their systems.

"The U.S. government has been looking at Kaspersky for years, so this announcement is no real surprise to anyone".

"The US government has a duty to protect its information, and we can assume that this decision is based on careful consideration and evidence, some or much of which they have not made public", said Alex Hamerstone, Practice Lead for the Governance, Risk, and Compliance division at security consultant TrustedSec, in an email sent to Fox News. "The strong ties between Kaspersky Lab and the Kremlin are very alarming and well-documented". US Intelligence officials have also asserted for quite some time that Kaspersky has ties to the Russian Federation, if for no other reason than the company's founder came from a KGB cryptography school.

White House Calls Jemele Hill's Trump Tweets a 'Fireable Offense'
I think she is a talented broadcaster, a provocative writer and one of the brightest stars in the ESPN universe. Hill, an 11-year ESPN veteran, is active and opinionated on social media, as is much of ESPN's talent.

While he described the revenue his firm earns from the USA government as "close to zero", the wider United States market accounts for about a quarter of Kaspersky's sales.

Washington's recent attacks on Kaspersky Lab is seen by Moscow as an attempt to undermine efforts to rebuild a working relationship to combat terrorism and to initiate unfair competition in the information field and software market.

But Kaspersky also sells to federal contractors and third-party software companies that incorporate its technology in their products, so its technology may be more widely used in government than it appears from the contracting databases, US officials say.

Best Buy Co. declined to give details about why it dropped Kaspersky products, saying that it doesn't comment on contracts with specific vendors.

McClatchy reported in July that documents it viewed appeared to show a link between Kaspersky and the Russian Security Service, the spy agency known as the FSB. In the Russian embassy in the U.S., the ban on using Kaspersky Anti-Virus was called a continuation of russophobia.
