US Imposes New Iran Sanctions Over Ballistic Missile Program, 'Cyberattacks'

Iran to IAEA: No, You May Not Visit Our Military Sites

The administration's next move in its monthslong review of its Iran policy was expected later Thursday, when President Donald Trump faced a deadline to decide on extending waivers that allow Iran to conduct much of its global commerce.

Sources familiar with the matter stressed that the wider USA policy toward Iran, and whether to preserve the deal that gave Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for curbing its nuclear program, has yet to be decided. In exchange for Tehran rolling back its nuclear program, the US and other world powers agreed to suspend wide-ranging oil, trade and financial penalties that had choked the Iranian economy.

Two of the signatories - Jon Finer, who was a senior adviser to Secretary of State John Kerry, and Colin Kahl, an adviser to Obama - went further, holding a media-briefing call Wednesday with Wendy Sherman, who was the U.S.'s lead negotiator for the Iran deal when it was put in place under Obama.

The current nuclear deal is a failure; that is plain to see.

As a result of Iran verifiably meeting its nuclear commitments, the United States and the European Union have lifted nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, as described in the JCPOA.

As regards the JCPOA, the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), Zarif said Tehran and Moscow both maintain that the accord is non-negotiable and that all parties to the deal should honor their undertakings. Trump even indicated he would be over-ruling Tillerson if he de-certified Iranian compliance in July interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Citing confidentiality requirements, he also would not say, in response to a question, whether any of those "many" access visits had been to military sites. "Whatever tactical disagreements may exist between the US and Europe, there remains a rough strategic consensus about Iran among the allies".

If the president decides by the October 14 deadline to decertify the Iran deal, it would kick off a 60-day period in which Congress must decide whether to reinstate sanctions on Iran by a simple majority vote.

It's OK To Drink (A Little) During Pregnancy
Before now, it was believed that it is safe for women to consume little quantities of alcohol without causing the baby any harm. For most of the outcomes the researchers analysed, there were only a few studies that compared light to non-drinkers.

"Iran is clearly in defiance of these obligations", Tillerson said, pointing to its support of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government, cyber activity and testing of ballistic missiles.

Lavrov also told reporters that Iran has lived up to its commitments under the JCPOA. But he stopped short of saying whether he will refuse to recertify the agreement.

Weeks after U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley raised the issue during meetings with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials in Vienna, IAEA director-general Yukiya Amano said Monday that in carrying out its duties under what's known as the Additional Protocol, "we do not distinguish [between] civilian locations - sites - and military".

Khors, the release said, provides material support and services to Iran-based Caspian Air through a sub-wet-lease of a US-origin aircraft.

He also noted that the United Nations nuclear agency has already verified there has been no undeclared nuclear activities in Iran.

The current crisis with North Korea has been discussed often in this context - that tearing up the Iran deal would harm USA credibility with North Korea as it tries to negotiate for Pyongyang to denuclearize.

"The possibility that US -manufactured aircraft could be used as tools of terror is absolutely unacceptable and should not be condoned by the USA government", they wrote in a letter to Trump.
