You Can No Longer Download Apps on Apple's Desktop iTunes

Apple removes built-in App Store section with the new iTunes update

In Apple's big product show today in Cupertino at the new Steve Jobs Theater, Apple COO Jeff Williams unveiled Watch OS 4, which is largely focused on health and fitness.

The new iTunes update also comes with new features like adding support for syncing iOS 11 devices along with focusing on music, movies, audio books and podcasts.

iPhone and iPad users will still be able to use the iTunes desktop app to back up their devices.

You can still find iOS apps, ringtones, and books (PC only) that you've downloaded in your iTunes Media folder.

To be honest, we will not miss it. The software build was earlier leaked when an Apple employee emailed the public download URLs of iOS 11 to 9to5Mac and MacRumors. Apple has chose to remove the built-in App Store from iTunes 12.7 as part of its effort to streamline its online services on desktop computers.

To download the new version, go to the "Updates" tab in the Mac App Store.

A few other changes in the iTunes update include shifting iTunes U to the Podcasts section and moving internet radio stations to the music library sidebar.

Apple has cut some of the clutter from its iTunes software by removing the ability to buy and transfer iOS apps from the program.

Apple just started rolling out the golden master build of its latest operating system update iOS 11 to the developers for beta testing on September 12. You should not need to restart your Mac, unless you also made a decision to click the Update All button, which installs any other OS updates available.

On the Mac, users will have to open the App Store from the Applications folder or from the App Dock.

iOS 11's revamped control centre is its most eye-catching aesthetic change.
