At least 18 Egyptian policemen killed in blast in Sinai Islamic State claims responsibility

Death toll of Monday's anti-police terror attack in the city of Arish in Egypt's North Sinai province had climbed to 18, state-run Ahram newspaper reported.

Seven others were wounded in the attack, said security and military officials.

A number of weapons were found in the two apartments.

The security forces broke into an apartment in one of the neighborhood's residence building, where the suspects were hiding. The wounded included a police brigadier general.

Terror attacks in Egypt used to focus on police and military men in North Sinai before spreading nationwide and targeting the Coptic minority as well, with a lot of them claimed by a Sinai-based group loyal to the regional Islamic State (IS) militant group.

She said she plans to stay engaged in politics, however, 'because I literally believe our country's future is at stake'. On CBS' "This Morning", Clinton said she is doing well but not "complacent or resolved about what happened ".

The attack took place about 30 kilometers (20 miles) west of el-Arish in northern Sinai, the epicenter of a long-running insurgency by militants now led by the Daesh terrorist group. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to brief media.

Monday's attack was the deadliest against security forces since July, when ISIS terrorists attacked a remote army outpost in the border town of Rafah, killing 23 soldiers. That was the deadliest attack in two years.

Private newspaper al-Masry al-Youm, citing security sources, reported that the slain extremists were from the self-styled Hasm group, which authorities accuse of being the armed wing of the now-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.

Egyptian police say they killed 10 suspected militants in a shoot-out near Cairo Sunday. They said the fighters had sneaked into the capital from northern Sinai but did not say whether they were members of ISIL.
