The Project One beast is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine coupled with hybrid technology offering a combined output exceeding 1,000 horsepower!

And while it looks likes the driver will be flying solo like a Formula One vehicle, it actually has room for two.

The Project One could cost close to $2.4 million when first deliveries begin in mid-2018. Timed to coincide with AMG's 50 anniversary, this one hell of a celebration from Mercedes.

But what might surprise some performance fans is the fact that the Project One auto will also get about 25 kilometers, or 16 miles in zero-emissions electric mode. Similarly, Project One can be plugged in to recharge its batteries, while its brakes are regenerative, meaning they can recoup energy that would normally be lost when slowing.

Sunday's First Warning Forecast: An nearly fall-like feel to the air
Expect overnight lows Friday night to drop into the 40s once again, followed by an afternoon in the 70s on Saturday . A chance of showers arrives heading into Wednesday as the remnants of Hurricane Irma move north toward Mid-Michigan.

The hypercar from Mercedes is projected to arrive in 2020 and it promises a performance that is purely insane. The transmission can be fully automated or shifted like a traditional manual transmission.

Lewis Hamilton was on hand to roll the auto onto the stage and looked quite the part alongside the beast. The seats don't slide, but adjustable backrests, pedals and steering wheel allow passengers to get comfortable. It marks yet another pinnacle of the successful, strategic development of Mercedes-AMG towards a performance and sports auto brand.

Mercedes-AMG claims this will be a vehicle that is driveable everyday, and to that end has included two compartments for storage inside the cabin behind the seats, an air conditioning system, power windows, and a version of its COMAND infotainment system.

A 90 kW motor has been integrated into the turbocharger, another 120 kW motor has been installed directly on the combustion engine with a link to the crankcase and two quite special 120 kW, high-speed electric motors on the front axle deliver power to the front wheels. In terms of outright performance, a top speed in excess of 217mph is promised, and while there's no 0-62mph time Mercedes claims that the Project ONE can dash from standstill to 124mph in less than six seconds. A digital screen linked to a rear-facing camera replaces the rear-view mirror and Mercedes has also seen fit to include a smartphone holder and sat nav. This intake is one of many prominent vents that contribute both to cooling the powertrain and improving the Project One's aerodynamic efficiency.
