Amazon Looking For Second North American Headquarters

Amazon plans to spend $5B on second HQ campus

This morning, Amazon said it is seeking proposals from cities and states in North America for a second headquarters.

Amazon has not specifically mentioned taxes but has said it is looking for a "business friendly environment" and communities that "think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options".

Amazon has announced plans to invest Dollars 5 billion in a second headquarters in the US.

Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said the new headquarters will be "a full equal" to its Seattle counterpart with as many as 50,000 jobs.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is looking to build a second headquarter for its company that could house 50,000 employees.

Bezos also said his company will have a preference for a city that can put the new headquarters in or near its downtown area and allow for a similar building layout to the Seattle facility.

Amazon's current campus in Seattle takes up 8.1 million square feet, has 33 buildings and 24 restaurants and is home to more than 40,000 employees.

Channel 4 had been hoping to get between six and seven million tuning in after paying £75m to snatch it from the Beeb. Great British Bake Off 2017 fans were excited to see the show, as the series launched on Channel 4 for the first time.

What's interesting is that in its announcement today, Amazon doesn't mention the U.S. specifically, suggesting that cities in Canada and Mexico are up for consideration as well.

Amazon did not say when it expects to open the new campus.

Toronto's Mayor John Tory said in a statement that the city is a "prime candidate" for Amazon's second headquarters. The online retailer is now soliciting pitches from cities and states for what it calls "Amazon HQ2". Others may be more hesitant, after Amazon has already taken over large chunks of downtown Seattle, helping drive up housing costs in the area.

Pittsburgh plans to compete for the new site of AmazonHQ2, a second headquarters location announced by the Seattle-based company early Thursday.

The online giant is also considering a development-prepped site. Achieving that may entail major changes to the company's organizational structure once the new location is operational.

Arlington, officials say, could fit the bill - and the county is planning to respond to Amazon's request for proposals. The new project will not be a satellite office.
