Redskins put Su'a Cravens of exempt/left team list after safety mulls retirement

His knee injury is expected to keep Cravens out of Washington's regular-season opener against the Eagles.

The Washington Redskins almost lost their 22-year old safety this weekend - not to an injury or a suspension, but to retirement. There was obviously a pattern of behavior that followed him to the National Football League, as it has been reported that he tried to quit during his rookie year, when injury forced him to miss the team's final few games of the season.

Washington linebacker Su'a Cravens hasn't been around the National Football League for long, but perhaps he's had enough already. Per the Post, Cravens' teammates felt he was losing his "zeal for the game" after a concussion last October that he said affected his vision.

With the safety position losing veteran Will Blackmon during Saturday's cuts, the group will rely heavily on 26-year-old D.J.

He will also go to Louisiana, which was hit by heavy rains associated with Harvey as well. Officials estimate Harvey damaged or destroyed 100,000 homes.

Whether or not Cravens returns to the team at the end of the month, he clearly isn't all-in on football, which is, of course, totally fine. "I think I need to follow what makes me happy, get my mental right, my well-being right and my family right". ESPN reported that Cravens informed a handful of teammates the prior day that he meant to notify the team of his retirement. Whatever he has to do, we're here to support him.

But Saturday night, Cravens informed his fellow defensive backs in a group text message that he was retiring, a second person familiar with the situation said. After the second injury, Cravens didn't report to Redskins Park for three days and didn't tell anyone why. Players were left to address the stunning news that Cravens had considered retirement. "Whatever he's dealing with I'm praying for him".

"You never know what's in anyone's life, so you make sure that's fine first and foremost before you get back to your job", Redskins cornerback?

Gruden was originally supposed to speak with reporters after practice Sunday, but that news conference was canceled and moved until Tuesday. You can hate me or love me.
