Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in action against Garbine Muguruza of Spain duri

In an Open where so many women players are in comeback mode, nothing is as harrowing or heartwarming as Petra Kvitova's return to tennis this spring. In the key moments, she finds big serves.

With Garbiñe Mugruza's loss to Petra Kvitova in the Round of 16 at the US Open, here is a look at the latest scenarios for the WTA World No.1 Ranking.

Despite nine double faults, Kvitova made a difference with her serves, winning 78 percent of points on her first serve compared with Muguruza's 56 percent. Open appearances at Stanford, Toronto, Cincinnati and New Haven.

Kvitova and Williams have played three sets in each of their five career meetings. But sometimes I just really feel that the touch is there, the strength, the aggressive kind of game plan. I'm sorry, I'm not sorry I beat her.

Kvitova - who showed no signs of the severe hand injury she suffered during a horrific home invasion in December - will face Venus Williams in her second last-eight appearance in NY after the ninth seed prevailed against Carla Suarez Navarro.

Muguruza seemed back on track in the second set when she broke in the first game but Kvitova grabbed it back and cantered to a 4-1 lead as the Spaniard was given a warning for coaching.

Apple asks FCC for 'strong, enforceable open internet protections'
That really dives into one of the main problems with Pai's suggestion for how to make the open internet work. After a long silence, Apple defended net neutrality in a letter to the FCC Thursday.

"I was happy that I managed to win the match. She played very good".

"I think every player dreams to be number one at some point", Muguruza said.

At the age of 37, Williams is having her most consistent season at grand slam level for 15 years. Over all, it's a very good tournament for me. Neither of them has been great in NY, with Kvitova reaching the quarterfinals once, and this being Muguruza's first 4th Round.

In December, two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova had her hand slashed when an intruder held her at knifepoint in her apartment in the Czech Republic.

"What she has gone through is unimaginable, unreasonable", Williams said. So for her to be playing well is such a blessing. "To be able to come out here and do what she needs to do, to clear her head, it's such a lovely thing to see".
