Our Editorial: GOP must get tax reform done

The new Fox News poll, published Wednesday, showed that just 35 percent of respondents said they are happy with the country's direction, a low it hadn't recorded since 2013, when President Barack Obama's poll numbers fell amid a government shutdown and a rocky rollout of the Affordable Health Care Act.Sixty-four percent of respondents in the Fox News poll said they were dissatisfied with America's trajectory. 41 percent of voters believed Trump respected racial minorities while 56 percent said he did not.

Rewriting our nation's tax code, even when both sides are working together, is more easily said than done.

On the issue of his conduct, GOP voters also appear to be taking growing exception with some of Trump's more controversial actions. Democrats were far more unified, with 89 percent saying they didn't like Trump's behavior, 8 percent reporting mixed feelings, and a tiny 2 percent approving. Republicans (and independents who lean Republican, who are merged with that group in the responses below) generally agree with all or most of Trump's positions and, while only a third say they like Trump's behavior, most don't say they flat-out dislike it, either.

Among Trump voters, he gets his highest marks for "says what he thinks" (93 percent describes well), "strong leader" (74 percent), and "competent" (73 percent). He is a senior editor of National Review and the author of "The Party of Death: The Democrats, the Media, the Courts, and the Disregard for Human Life".

News has posted some video of a Pittsburgh panel of voters that was held on Tuesday evening, and it offers an even more complete picture of voters' attitudes about the man who was elected president last November. Almost six-in-ten (58%) say Trump should listen more to Republicans who have experience working in government, while 34% say he should listen less. At that point, three-fourths of likely Trump supporters (74 percent) said their vote wasn't really an endorsement of him, so much as voting for a party and against a candidate they despised.

US President Donald Trump tells Russian Federation to close consulate
Both countries now maintain three consulates on each other's territory and ostensibly similar numbers of diplomats. At that time, the Consul General called Obama's accusations against their staff "bizarre and ridiculous".

The poll was conducted over the telephone between August 27 and August 29. The territorial tax system proposed by the Trump Administration would exempt offshore profits of American corporations from US taxes.

A new Pew Research Center poll finds that an average of 60 percent of Americans find words like "selfish" and "prejudice" to be apt descriptions of President Donald Trump. This survey, conducted online August 8-21 among 4,971 adults, asked respondents to describe in their own words what they like most about Trump and their biggest concern about how he is handling his job as president.

Mr. Trump has been promising a target of at least 3 percent growth annually, and he seized on the news as an indication of even better things to come. He dutifully read out his principles from the teleprompter - which he uses when giving a speech somebody else wants him to give - but made clear that he isn't expecting Democratic cooperation. In comparison, 30 percent said counterprotesters bore more responsibility, the same number who said either, both or neither carried more blame. Voter satisfaction had taken a precipitous drop compared to April, when the same polling group found that 45 percent of respondents were satisfied with their country's direction and 53 percent were not.
