Having a Sim life in a Sim world in a Sim house with some Sim friends is great, but sometimes life is better when fluff balls are part of it.

Animal lovers and The Sims 4 players will be pleased to hear that a Cats & Dogs expansion will be released on 10 November. This lets you "design and create" your pet, letting you welcome anything from the mangiest cross-breed to the most pampered pedigree into your Sims' lives.

After months' worth of deliberations by the Sims team it was decided that the pets themselves would go back to the way things were in The Sims 2 Pets and your furry friends would be left to their own devices.

The "Cats & Dogs" expansion pack will bring with it a "Create a Pet" tool, which is exactly what it sounds like. "From dogs and cats to puppies and kittens, the new tools for customizing pets are so flexible and powerful, players can really create anything they can imagine".

Pet creation works similar to how players create and modify Sims in the game, where they can edit nearly every aspect of a cat or dog, down to the breed and even patterns on their fur. Pets can then be trained and cared for.

Even though The Sims 4 debuted three years ago, it's seen 20 percent growth month-over-month in monthly active users on PC.

The addition also has implications for regular Sims due to the addition of the Veterinary career and clinic. There is also a new coastal harbor map called "Bridleton Bay" where Sims can walk their dogs and play fetch near the water.

The Sims 4 is getting more adorable.
