Tree crashes down on mother and 3 children in Central Park

A huge tree came down in Central Park this morning, injuring several people, according to the FDNY.

Why the tree fell over near 62nd Street, blocking West Drive, which runs through Central Park, is under investigation, said Sam Biederman, a spokesman for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

The woman was trying to shield the kids when the tree knocked her in the head, according to the FDNY. The boys are 2 and 4 years old, and the infant is about 2 to 3 months old; all are expected to be OK, though fire officials at the scene say the mother was in critical condition. Four mounted police officers who just happened to be riding near the area where the Central Park tree fell, heard the loud crack as it tore from the earth and saw it fall.

A source close to Mr Davis said the papers would highlight the British teams were "on the front foot" in the negotiations. Barnier is due to meet Britain's Brexit minister, David Davis , for a new round of negotiations at the end of August.

The children were pulled out from under the tree's branches, but they did not appear to have any serious injuries, the witness said. "She was lying on her back, the stroller was off a couple of feet in front of her, that was also twisted up in the branches", said Joseph Tomeo of the NYPD Mounted Unit. An eyewitness said the woman lost consciousness for a few minutes and then regained consciousness.

The children were crying after the incident but were not seriously injured. O'Leary has a 2-year-old child as well, and deemed the Central Park tree incident as "definitely heart-breaking". "They had the stroller tipped up against her so I think that kind of saved them".

Parks officials confirmed they were mobilizing crews to clear debris. He described hearing the crack of the tree as a "big log snapping" that "fell real fast".
