Samsung's Cat.18 6CA-supported LTE modem technology achieves up to 1.2 Gbps downlink speed.

The technology allows network operators to provide fast and stable data communication by bundling more than two frequency bands to increase bandwidth. However, Qualcomm isn't the only chip maker to offer gigabit download speeds. It is also in news that with this modem you will be able to download HD qualities movies in just 10 seconds. However, with the new technology coming into the market, carriers will possibly tighten their belts and start testing 6CA speeds to bring them into the market soon.

"The 1.2Gbps maximum downlink speed with 6CA support highlights Samsung's leading design capabilities and well-positions Samsung for the upcoming 5G era", said Woonhaing Hur, Vice President of System LSI Protocol Development at Samsung Electronics in a statement.

Samsung expects to begin mass production of the mobile processor which will adopt the new technology by the end of 2017. The 3GPP now defines carrier aggregation as a maximum of five component carriers, each having up to 20 megahertz of bandwidth.

Samsung showcases 6CA LTE modem tech

Today, Samsung announced its next LTE modem, which will be capable of downlink speeds of 1.2Gbps.

Samsung's model is the first to support 6CA (carrier aggregation).

The new LTE modem was developed in partnership with Anritsu, a telecommunication measuring instrument provider.

It also supports 4×4 MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output) and higher-order 256 QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation) scheme for maximum data transfer rates. It has enhanced licensed-assisted access (eLAA) that can aggregate both licensed and unlicensed spectra.
