The National Weather Service said it wants the public to know the difference between signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Drivers could experience delays exceeding one hour in high heat conditions coming from San Jose. A less severe heat advisory for mountain areas with elevations lower than 5,000 feet, which includes Julian and Pine Valley, will run from 11 a.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Mid-90s daytime high temperatures were expected on Monday, before seeing the mercury ramp back to, or above, the 100-degree mark beginning on Tuesday.

The Central Valley will be an oven, with Sacramento expected to hit 103 on Saturday, 107 on Sunday and Monday and 109 on Tuesday.

High temperatures in Solano County are expected to increase west to east as the influence of the San Francisco Bay's weather pattern gives way to the Sacramento Valley's influence.

Through Friday's press deadline, the Seminole community had observed five days of 100-degree or higher temperatures, with those days occurring between June 10 and June 15.

Summer officially begins next week, but the summer heat is already here.

Hikers and others planning to go outdoors are advised to stay in groups, keep hydrated, dress for the heat in light and breathable clothing, take regular breaks and stay indoors if the heat becomes overwhelming.

It's about to get really hot in the Southwest, and health officials want people to stay alert.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a unsafe situation in which heat illness is likely.Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. In California, the heat will only ease just short of the coast.
