Bill O'Reilly says 'hatred' killed controversial Fox News head Roger Ailes

Roger Ailes, founder of Fox News Channel, dies at 77

Roger Ailes, the former chairman and CEO of Fox News who revolutionized television news, died Thursday, his wife revealed.

"The sudden passing of Roger Ailes will make it hard for Fox News to refute the allegations against him as his testimony was not secured by sworn testimony to date", New York City lawyer Douglas Wigdor said in a statement emailed to Bloomberg BNA May 18. No cause was given. "Roger and I shared a big idea which he executed in a way no one else could have". Prior to this, he ran CNBC and was a media consultant for the Republican Party. Other women came forward, including star anchor Megyn Kelly, claiming Ailes had sexually harassed them, too. The notes directed positive coverage for Republican politicians and negative news about Democrats.

The genius, West noted, was in Ailes' balancing act.

CHRIS RUDDY: Roger nearly single handedly built the number one TV network for cable news in the country, and he did it within three or four years. "CNN looks much more like Fox News than what CNN looked like in 1995". Did many of its viewers believe there was a secular culture eroding traditional values?

He was abruptly dismissed from Fox News in July 2016 in the wake of a lawsuit filed by former anchor Gretchen Carlson accusing him of sexual improprieties. Multiple women reported that Ailes openly made quid pro quo offers to trade sex for jobs. In cases where Fox News is named as a defendant along with executives who are said to have tolerated workplace discrimination, "these statements wouldn't be admissible against those other individuals because he's not their agent".

"Roger Ailes has died".

Last summer, the world learned why Ailes was so terrified about having his life made public. Mr Ailes managed to upraise the company within six years after it was inaugurated, till the Fox News became the cable channel that draws viewers the most in the country. Ailes infused his network with talk-radio personalities such as Hannity and Glen Beck, using their voices to coalesce the conservative movement behind an us-against-them approach to their competition. I considered Ailes to be the most consequential media and political figure of his generation - a modern-day Citizen Kane. But no one person was more at fault than Roger Ailes. One employee claimed that Ailes paid her to have sex with him and, when she got a little older, used her to to lure younger employees into private meetings with him that were just groping opportunities. "But somebody put a frame around the hole and wrote, 'Don't mess with Roger Ailes"'.

Fox News was an unprecedented media outlet, the culmination of Ailes' lifetime of experience and victories in both TV and politics reaching all the way back to a time when the Fox News audience could have been likened to the so-called Silent Majority that carried Richard Nixon to the White House.

Ailes was born in Warren in northeast OH and attended Warren G. Harding High School. He had hemophilia yet his father sometimes beat him with a belt, according to Sherman's biography. The following year, he was hired as Nixon's television manager and helped him win the presidency in 1968. TVN, whose slogan was "fair and balanced", shut down within a year.

How much would President Trump have been covered if he hadn't followed the Ailes formula?

But this is a story that has - dare I even say this? - a happy ending.

Ailes helped George H.W. Bush win the presidency in 1988 and advised Bush again four years later in his unsuccessful re-election bid.

Taibbi was also delusional enough to decry invective, which he should realize is his specialty, his calling card: "invective, like drugs or tobacco or any other addictive property, is a product of diminishing returns". Ailes fell in his bathroom, hit his head and was bleeding profusely.
