Talking to journalists at the end of two-day Good and Services Tax (GST) 14th Council meeting here this afternoon Jaitley said the current situation in the Kashmir valley was as a result when you took to arms and violence to kill people, security forces and damage property.

Amid spurt in violence in Kashmir, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday reviewed the security situation in the Valley with senior army commanders along the Line of Control (LoC). "They are fully confident they will not allow any infiltration from across the border into Jammu and Kashmir", Jaitley told the media here. "If there is any effort at any form of ceasefire violation, our soldiers will give adequate response to it", said Jaitley adding that terrorism and militancy were aimed against the sovereignty of Indian state and the people of the state. While a section would comprise security measures, another would entail citizen-friendly measures, he said.

He claimed that separatists' actions were not only against Indian state but also against Kashmiris.

"I visited some forward positions on the border today (Friday) to express solidarity of our countrymen with our soldiers".

Asked whether central government distinguishes between good separatist and bad separatists the coin termed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Jaitley said, "For an average citizen, irrespective of his political views, we will like him to be on the Indian side on this debate". But as far as those who are killing people we can not extend the same facility to them.

He said taking to violence only unleashed a "cycle of violence" and that the aspirations of the people can be addressed only when there is peace. The government has already given the Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) a free hand to respond to any "misadventure" from across the borders, the sources here said.
