Judge orders Uber not to use technology taken from Waymo

Citing sources, the report said that the two companies would be working together on pilot projects and product development efforts, which may see some Lyft users getting to book a Waymo self-driving vehicle in a limited test sometime down the road.

The company said that the launch of self-driving pilot projects would accelerate its vision for transportation, while Waymo said the partnership would extend its reach to "more people, in more places".

Waymo, a unit of Google parent Alphabet Inc., said it welcomed the order stopping Uber from using "stolen documents containing trade secrets developed by Waymo through years of research".

While both sides had their wins in court, Waymo took the upper hand outside of it by forging a partnership with Lyft, the other big name in the ride-hailing business.

Waymo and Uber are now engaged in a bitter legal dispute.

Alsup ordered Uber to remove Levandowski from any role in Lidar, and told the company to stop him from copying or otherwise using the downloaded materials.

The Spurs shocked the Warriors in the first half, jumping out to a 20-point lead at halftime. More than anything, the Golden State family was happy to see his face and hear his voice.

Lyft isn't working on its own proprietary self-driving cars, but it has said in the past that it was willing to partner with companies that are.

Uber's self-driving program will continue in Pittsburgh as a trade secrets lawsuit against the ride-hailing company continues to make its way through the court system, a federal judge has decided.

It seems Google's self-driving auto division is not content with simply putting Uber out of business.

Also on Thursday, Judge Alsup referred the case to the US Department of Justice for investigation of possible trade secret theft, and ruled against Uber's request for private arbitration that would have kept much of the case out of the public eye. As Google-owned Waymo's lawsuit has made abundantly clear, there's plenty of questions to be answered regarding how Uber's autonomous vehicle program reached its current state, and now the top on-demand ride hailing app has yet another problem on its hands: a potentially devastating partnership between Waymo and Lyft.

The two companies have yet to formally announce the deal, so details about how the partnership will work are still a bit unclear, but it's very likely you could get into a pink-mustachioed Googlevan in the near future. General Motors, a major investor in Lyft, recently said it would soon begin testing self-driving vehicles through the app's network.

Lyft already has some self-driving vehicle experience under its hood.
