The funeral for the Kirkersville police chief killed last week in a shooting will be held Saturday, the Kirkersville mayor tells 10TV.

The police chief slain by a gunman who killed two others in a nursing home last week died from a single shotgun wound as he got out of his vehicle, a coroner said today.

Peter Van Runkle, the head of the state trade association representing nursing homes, told the Dispatch that Pine Kirk caters to "the forgotten members of society". She, nurse Marlina Medrano and Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Eric Disario were killed in the Friday attack.

Suspect Thomas Hartless, 43, was found dead inside the nursing home in Kirkersville, a village of some 500 residents, about 25 miles (39 kilometers) east of Columbus. Hartless was later found dead inside the nursing home where Medrano worked.

The Licking County coroner says autopsy results likely wouldn't be released until Sunday. Medrano and Hartless previously had a history of a "volatile relationship", the Hartford Advocate reported; she had filed for a protection order from him earlier this month.

"I am afraid to be alone with him, that he will hurt me for good", Medrano wrote in her latest petition in May.

The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/2qFMaJ7 ) that Cindy Krantz is being remembered as a kind person who loved her kids.

In a December police report, she told how he had threatened to murder her and bury her in a grave that he had already dug.

The Columbus Dispatch profiled Hartless, painting a picture of a man who was violent with any woman he came into contact with. He was the father of six, with a seventh child on the way.
