China has recently tested a new type of guided missile in a northeastern sea near the Korean peninsula, the defense ministry said Tuesday, hours after South Korean elections held amid regional tensions.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is overseeing a sweeping modernisation of the country's armed forces, with an emphasis on technological innovation and naval capability as it seeks to project greater power in the disputed South China Sea.

China anxious that its radars could reportedly peer deep into Beijing, allowing USA and its allies to better detect rocket launches and aircraft movements.

The tests of new missiles and weapons were carried out by the Peoples Liberation Armys Rocket Force in recent days and were created to "raise operational capability" of the armed forces to "effectively respond to threats" to national security, the statement said.

The statement did not say what missiles were tested or when the launches took place.

Military analysts said the "rare high-profile announcement of the missile tests" was a response to the THAAD deployment. Further, the recent missile test indicates that Beijing is proactively improving its defense and counterattack capabilities.

Germany to clamp down on North Korea's Berlin operations
The German government said Wednesday that it was taking steps to prevent them being used to generate cash for the rogue state. According to media reports , the rooms in City Hotel Berlin cost 17 euros ($18) per night.

China and Russian Federation openly protested at the USA deploying the THAAD, accusing them of using it to spy on them. "It was likely the advanced intermediate-range DF-26B, a modified version of the DF-26", Liang said.

There is a strict Chinese boycott of South Korea that has been in effect since the THAAD defenses were installed. It included Dongfeng-21D missile, the anti- ship ballistic missile described as the "carrier killer".

The missile was created to "raise operational capability" of the armed forces to "effectively respond to threats" to national security, it said, adding that the test had "achieved an expected result".

Macau-based military observer Antony Wong Dong said the test might also be aimed at Washington, which has sent two aircraft carrier strike groups to waters off the peninsula.

It just said the test was carried out recently.

Another carrier, the Ronald Reagan, will join with it late this month, according to an earlier report from the Nikkei Asian Review.
