Brazil's Ministry for Health released a statement to The World Health Organisation citing "the decrease in cases of Zika and microcephaly throughout the country ". Because cases have dramatically dropped in recent months, however, officials have finally declared an end to the threat. And after it was declared a national emergency in Brazil, it was pretty much across every single newspaper front page. Microcephaly, which is shown to cause birth defects, an enlarged head, and stunted speech in newborns, affected thousands of children after the initial outbreak. While eight people died a year ago, no casualties have been reported in 2017 so far, BBC reported.

It was not considered a major health threat until the 2015 outbreak revealed it can cause birth defects.

In response to the rising health emergency, Brazil intensified its existing anti-mosquito campaigns. While Brazil registered 170,535 zika cases in 2016, only 7,911 occurred this year.

About half the women (51%) traveled to a Zika risk area after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued its initial travel advisory in February 2016, the researchers said. Many people infected with Zika virus experience mild or no symptoms, so may not even suspect that they're infected.

Ronald Koeman unsure over Ross Barkley's Everton future
"I have got at least one more year on my contract and I feel as though I have got a lot more football in me". We are already trying to get players in for next season in the front positions. "He is not so hard ".

The DOH has strongly urged pregnant women to take steps to prevent mosquito bites and protect themselves from sexual transmission of Zika throughout their entire pregnancy.

"The Health Ministry and other organisations involved in this area will maintain a policy of fighting Zika, dengue and chikungunya", said Adeilson Cavalcante, the secretary for health surveillance at Brazil's Health Ministry.

However, the northeastern region of Brazil continues to have the highest infection rates, with 44.2 cases per every 100,000 inhabitants.

However, doctors have warned that victims of the disease must not be forgotten.
