The name of Nick Rodman will also be etched into the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. Ottawa, according to a news release.

The community is invited to show support for current law enforcement officers, honor those who have retired and pay respects to those who have fallen in the line of duty at the annual Fayette County Low Enforcement Officers Memorial Day Service in Fayetteville at noon on May 15.

The Rev. Charlie Adams will lead the service.

According to National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 2017 is National Peace Officers Memorial Day and this memorial celebration all started back in 1962 after President Kennedy's proclamation.

Joining other municipalities around the country, King County recognizes May 14-20 in honor of law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the public. We owe a debt of thanks to them and their families for the dedication, commitment and perseverance they demonstrate on behalf of citizens and communities everywhere.

Since that time, Texas has lost 1,706 officers in the line of duty, the most of any state.

Public Safety Officer Michael Ventura died in the line of duty on July 8, 2016, following a tragic automobile accident. Scott Wertz was killed in the line of duty near City Hall in 2006.

For those in law enforcement, it doesn't matter the color of uniform or the style of shield they wear.
