A news conference on school bus safety was held this morning, a day after an accident killed a driver and put 14-students in the hospital.

The girl was in critical condition Friday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, hospital spokeswoman Danita Cohen said. Priscilla Gomez, 10, was inside a auto that was driven by her grandmother when it crashed with a Clark County school bus Thursday near Carey Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

According to police Capt. Ken Young of Clark County Schools, the exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The school bus crashed into the front of a white auto at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Another child was critically injured in the demolished Ford Taurus.

North 60th Street was shut in both directions while authorities investigated the crash scene.

Evans, a 24-year CCSD employee, and Young, a 26-year CCSD employee, said Thursday's crash was the first time in their careers they've ever seen a school bus involved in a roll over crash.

Deputy Las Vegas Police Chief Chris Jones says the 14 injured children were taken to two hospitals.

Evan's described the driver as a 13 year veteran who was no designated to the bus route she was driving Thursday. My kids need help.

School officials say the female bus driver was also treated for injuries and released. The school bus then plowed through a fence before it finally flipped over on its side in a vacant lot.

Children are taught at least twice a year how to evacuate through escape hatches on the roof and the back of a bus in case of an emergency, Evans said.
