Mad Men- Elisabeth Moss

DEGGANS: "Mad Men" alum Elisabeth Moss is compelling and relatable as the lead character, a woman we see running from security forces with her daughter minutes before they're both captured. That's the first lesson I learned when I started directing with other cinematographers.

The first three episodes of "The Handmaid's Tale" are now streaming on Hulu, and new episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays beginning May 3. It speaks for itself. But. if I see immediately that you are a wife, then I know how I am supposed to react.

Hulu's excellent adaptation of Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel, The Handmaid's Tale, is a horror show unveiled in slow motion. Handmaids are basically owned by men with barren wives. But as a typical woman, her inner monologue is sharp and unrelenting. It's a time in your life when you only want to leave home to work if you absolutely love the project and feel it's important'. Granted, she may be at the higher end of the class system than Offred (Elizabeth Moss), but even her power has limits - limits that one day may make her regret ever helping to set this new world into motion. Like Panem in The Hunger Games, our setting is America postfascist coup.

In this world, America's democracy and Constitution have fallen, replaced by a theocratic autocracy called Gilead.

The warnings here, the parallels with actual facets of our society, are obvious. There's a streak of Biblical literalism running through Gilead. In the imaginary Republic of Gilead, women are not allowed to own property or have bank accounts, and because of widespread infertility, those who have successfully had children are assigned to be Handmaids - bearing children for the rich and powerful. She also talked about returning to Top of the Lake for a second season, and why she wanted to make sure it would be different. In the square Offred whispers with an old acquaintance about Moira.

Though some of the casting choices seem off, two are exactly right: Alexis Bledel is a pleasant surprise as Offred's handmaid friend Ofglen, conveying complex backstory through intonation alone.

Govt forces guilty of 'trespass' in Pulwama college: inquiry report
According to eyewitnesses, students had formed a chain and were not allowing others to throw stones either on shops or forces. At least 14 students were injured, some of them from pellets, in Pulwama and Shopian.

Offred: "The glass is shatterproof, but it isn't running away they're afraid of".

ACTRESS: There's an eye in your house. She is not safe. And even when it gets dark, it isn't a slog. "I had a window with white curtains and the glass is shatterproof", she says in a tired monotone. It's the world we know, after a few more bad decisions. "That's how we let it happen".

A United Kingdom air date for The Handmaid's Tale has yet to be announced. When Ofglen's subversive activities bring her unwelcome attention, she is made to wear a muzzle. We learn Moss' character's now a handmaid, a woman forced to have babies.

But "The Handmaid's Tale" could land Hulu on the right side of that line.

There is a lot of TV out there. "It was way too much like way too much history". But really, what would it cost you to watch one more series? Then, with astonishing swiftness, we see women stripped of their independence, and any resistance violently squashed.

Not resting on its laurels, Hulu has been building buzz by sending women dressed in the iconic handmaid's uniform of crimson dress and white bonnet to public events from San Diego Comic-Con and South by Southwest in Austin to the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
