Yesterday, Samsung announced a communication app Wemogee, that uses emojis to enable individuals with language disorders to communicate better.

Samsung has recognized their potential and made a decision to start using them as more than just a fun addition, by creating the Wemogee app, that can actually help people suffering from aphasia. It affects the language centres of the brain, resulting in difficulty in comprehending or communicating language.

According to Samsung, "Samsung Wemogee functions as a kind of translator between text and emojis". The non-aphasic user will receive the message in text form and can then reply using pre-set textual phrases. Wemogee is created to give them a faster and more versatile alternative.

Turkish democracy placed on damaging watchlist by European Union monitors
Kati Piri, a Dutch Labour MEP who specialises in EU-Turkey relations, said the EU would have to reassess its position on Turkey. The Council is separate from the European Union , but the move is set to be a further blow to Turkey's bid to join the bloc.

That's because Wemogee is aimed at people who suffer from aphasia, a neurological disorder that prevents them from producing and understanding speech.

They started off as a silly addition to our texts and other messages, but over time, became increasingly popular, and now have even managed to find their own goal as a new communication tool, we're, of course, talking about emojis. The disorder is most common among people who had a stroke. The Wemogee app is free to download through the Google Play Store. The app makers reason that aphasia patients are able to understand emojis as they are able to "depict all aspects of emotion". With more than 140 phrases, this app can cover day-to-day conversations. The emojis used are a combination of gestures, images, and facial expressions which are essential in our communication process.

As Unicode continues to make the emoji "alphabet" more inclusive, the little symbols help more people express themselves. Wemogee's promotional video shows a screen in the app with a message written in words and emojis, allowing both users to understand the conversation regardless of language capacity.
