The Boston Celtics point guard lost his 22-year-old sister, Chyna, in a one-car crash Saturday morning, but remained with the team for Games 1 and 2 of a first-round National Basketball Association playoff matchup with the Chicago Bulls. We haven't seen him play like that in a long, long time. The Celtics, of course, have also been good - 11-4 - but the point is not that the Bulls are clearly better, it's that the teams may be more evenly matched than we figured. "That's where your confidence always comes from".
Game 3 is Friday in Salt Lake City. In game one, they out rebounded the Celtics 65-44. Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics with 22 points.
Here are five other takeaways from Tuesday's 114-97 loss to the Chicago Bulls in Game 2 of their best-of-seven series. As Cleveland and Atlanta did to the Celtics the past two playoffs, the Bulls are hedging aggressively with their big man in the pick-and-roll.
And the problems are multiple, from the Bulls' aggressive defence to Boston's lack of rebounding. At the same time, though, anything can happen once.
Chicago again used its big men to push the Celtics out of the paint and was quicker to the ball in a lot of 50-50 situations. The Celtics need someone else on their roster to step up offensively. I've been a little bit more aggressive offensively, but before the game, Jimmy and D-Wade kept telling me to shoot the ball and stay aggressive.
Enough talking that Boston guard Avery Bradley was all but begging his teammates to change their body language so that Rondo would stop feeding off of it.
Talk-radio host Alex Jones argues persona in custody dispute
Adam Schiff, D-California. "Fill your hand", echoing John Wayne's warning in " True Grit " to a man he's about to shoot and kill. And she doesn't buy the argument that his InfoWars persona is an act.
"The credit through this team sticking together through injuries to put ourselves in position to make the playoffs goes to everyone from the coaching staff to the leaders to the young guys, everyone did it together", Dwyane Wade said. He knows what it takes to win. Check out this bit: 6-foot-10 power forward Niklola Mirotic, an above average 3-point shooter, pulls Kelly Olynyk away from the basket - he hit 3-of-9 3-pointers, but finished with 13 points - which leaves 6-foot-9 Amir Johnson to contend with 7-foot Robin Lopez on the glass. Chicago held a 14-9 edge in fast-break points and 14-12 advantage on second-chance points.
RoLo should be a force in this series from here on out, regardless of what Brad Stevens throws at him in subsequent games.
Thomas didn't speak publicly before or after either of those games, both Celtics losses. Have failed to score 100 points in three of their last four postseason games dating back to previous year.
So, the Bulls truly should be thinking best player available, and as I wrote previously, maybe take a shot at Indiana's O.G. Anunoby, who was considered a sure lottery pick before suffering a knee injury last season.
"It's got to [motivate Boston]", Stevens said. "As I told him, "Way to run your team". But Thomas himself said after the deadline he expected his front office to improve the team. And the noise is not going to be for you. Rondo, who spent 8 years in Boston to begin his career and also won a championship there in 2008, nearly notched a triple-double at TD Garden in Game 2.
