NEW YORK (AP) Samsung's new Galaxy S8 phone is stunning.
Several other features of the phone worked without a hitch.
Preorders for Samsung Electronics Co.'s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, have surpassed 1 million units, the company said Tuesday, setting a new record among all of its smartphones.
These are the features that will make you feel like a tech wizard, the ones that will transform you from smartphone user to handset master.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is displayed, Monday, April 17, 2017, in NY. The phones are IP68 water and dust resistant, MicroSD support up to 256GB, always-on display and have fast and wireless charging capabilities. That doesn't mean the pull-down Notifications tab has to be out of reach, however.
The fingerprint sensor is hard to work with because you can't see where it is. The first one lets you customise the gaming experience but it's the second one that's interesting - a battery saving mode that dims the screen but keeps the game alive.
But do you really need these goodies?
Samsung has made a lot of the ability to split-screen with the S8, which is not a new feature but is possibly more useful in light of its longer screen. They hold secret access to a raft of hidden features and functions, as well as shortcuts to all your favorite apps and favored contacts. A big question here is: Why would someone want to use Bixby when they have far more advanced and accurate Google Assistant on the same device? For those after something more, additional panels can be downloaded.
Trump seems confused about who is in charge of North Korea
Kim insisted that North Korea, also called the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), is ready for war with the US. Like much of Russia's state-controlled media, Kiselyov initially praised Trump in the weeks before and after his election.
The South Korean electronics giant supersized the screen, giving the S8 a 5.8in display, a big bump from the S7's 5.1in, while the S8+ received a 6.2in display, probably one of the largest for a smartphone. One way to do this is with split screen multitasking, letting you run two apps side by side. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
It did so by eliminating most of the bezel - the front is more than 80% screen - and also getting rid of the physical Home button.
Here, all your vital information are collated from your calendar, alarm and other apps so you get to see it all in one place. Once open, you can drag to resize or return to a full screen view.
With the last couple of flagship smartphones, Samsung introduced the fingerprint sensor and iris scanner for unlocking its phones - you'd think it's done but it is not.
It's just as well the facial recognition system on the S8 is so good, because the fingerprint scanner isn't almost as useful as it was in previous years, or as it is on phones such as the Apple iPhone 7, where it's still on the front. You can either turn off the face recognition system and use the iris scanner as the phone's main security system, or you can use it as part of a layered approach depending on whether you want more or less security for an application.
We know which we'd pick, and it's not a cute woodland creature. "The most lovely phone in the world", reads the headline for Business Insider's review. It is a preinstalled app which enables the user to control the device with touch and even voice commands. Image above VIA iFixit's Galaxy S8 Plus teardown. There's also the option of the traditional PIN, pattern or password unlock methods too.
The trouble was, I couldn't figure out how to lock the phone. "The Samsung phone you've been waiting for", writes Time. Right next to the camera lens array, on the opposite side from the LED flash array. The main camera on the S8 is about the same as last year's, so you can still get awesome photos with the S7.
All that screen space is great from a visual perspective.
