A soldier was killed and two others were injured Monday afternoon when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter they were flying crashed at a golf course in Maryland, according to an Army news release. The Army said one person is in serious condition and one is in critical condition.
The crash occurred at the Breton Bay Golf Course, said Sgt. Davaughn Parker, with the Maryland State Police.
"We are deeply saddened by this loss within our community", Maj. "Our condolences go out to the families and friends affected by this tragedy, and our team is focused on supporting them during this hard time". Officials with Army Military District of Washington said the injured individual was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Breton Bay Golf Course was established in 1971 and is a semi-private country club featuring a premier 18 hold golf course, a full service Pro Shop, an aquatic facility with a large competition pool, four tennis courts and a Club House.
Witnesses said pieces off the helicopter were falling off, but there is no report of fire at this time.
Leonardtown is about 60 miles southeast of Washington, D.C.

Army investigators were driving around the course in golf carts Monday evening, placing evidence markers near pieces of debris.
Fort Belvoir is located near the Potomac River south of Washington.
The incident comes less than two weeks after an F-16 fighter jet crashed in an unpopulated area near Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
One individual was medically evacuated from the site with crash-related injuries, she said.
The chopper was conducting a training mission when it went down, MDW officials said.
