Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz said in a statement Monday there was intel regarding a potential "terror attack" against tourists in the Sinai peninsula. "It's a purely political decision that is meant to have a psychological impact".

Egypt is home to around nine million Coptic Christians, who have seen attacks on them increase in recent years.

Soon afterward, sirens blared in parts of southern Israel, alerting residents to a rocket attack.
