Asked at a press conference in NY last November if Dumbledore will be portrayed as openly gay and if the new movies will explore a romantic relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, Rowling replied: "Well, I'm very comfortable with the question. I am really looking forward to working with him, but I already know that he Will capture all facets of Albus Dumbledore's personality in this period of his life revealed by JK Rowling". The iconic wizard was played by two actors in the "Harry Potter" films, beginning with Richard Harris.

Toby Emmerich, President and CCO of Warner Bros. "Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we're excited to embark on this new adventure with him".

He will play Dumbledore - in a story set years before the wizard became the headmaster of Hogwarts School - in the follow-up film to the Harry Potter prequel, which starred Eddie Redmayne as the protagonist Newt Scamander. If you don't recall, this is when Dumbledore was a Transfiguration teacher and Gellert Grindelwald (to be played by Johnny Depp) was leading his own revolution as a very powerful Dark wizard.

Law most recently appeared in Paolo Sorrentino's small screen drama "The Young Pope", which aired on HBO.

There are five "Fantastic Beasts" movies planned at this point, so this is just No. 2. After his death in 2002, Michael Gambon inherited the role.

Well, Dumbledore of course but there's going to be a new actor in the famous robe because two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law has been cast in the Fantastic Beasts sequel.

The eight Harry Potter movies made US$7 billion at the global box office.
