Trump says U.S. will forge a 'great bond' with Egypt

Trump and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi during a "warm and positive" meeting at the White House on Monday discussed holding a summit in Washington, D.C., the London-based newspaper Al-Hayat reported on Tuesday.

President Trump and President Al Sisi agreed to continue coordinating military, diplomatic, and political efforts to defeat terrorism.

And, as a matter of fact, this is the first visit in eight years from an Egyptian president to the United States.

It's the second meeting for the pair.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that the U.S. is ready to provide Russian Federation assistance in investigating the St. Petersburg attack if needed.

The president's visit to the Congress comes in the framework of strengthening bridges of communication and mutual understanding on the nature of the challenges facing the region and ways to address them and to emphasise that Egyptian-US relations are complex and strategic and that they need strengthening in order to overcome the battles ahead.

In recent months, USA and Egyptian officials have sought to stress commonalities.

Satloff says Trump is looking to Sissi, who has been outspoken in his condemnation of jihadism, as America's leading Arab partner in his high-profile fight against radical Islamist extremism.

President Donald Trump has spoken with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin over phone and offered the US' "full support" to Moscow in responding to the the deadly attack on the Saint Petersburg metro and bringing the perpetrators of the assault to justice.

Sisi was an Egyptian army officer who became the minister of defense after the overthrow of the government of Hosni Mubarak, which led to Mohammad Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood becoming president of Egypt. Sisi then led the popular overthrow Morsi and became president himself.
