Over fifty years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act, women continue to earn about eighty percent as much money as men. The group plans to advocate for equal pay, create tool kits people can bring to their companies and celebrate those organizations that already pay equally regardless of gender.

Equal Pay Day is being held Tuesday to highlight wage discrimination against women.

Western New York Women's Foundation Executive Director, Shari Scavone says, in a civil society, wage discrimination is more than just not fair.

But in some fields, including engineering and information technology, women make substantially less than men, on average, one year after graduating college.

Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-Babylon) announced that she passed a series of measures to help ensure women earn equal pay for equal work.

"Because of the businesses that are in NY, if they're really trying to get the greatest talent, that's another thing that tends to disrupt discrimination", she said.
