Tornado kills 2 in Louisiana as state put on 'high alert'

"Severe thunderstorms are officially defined as storms that are capable of producing hail that is an inch or larger or wind gusts over 58 miles per hour", Forecaster Larry Sprinkle says.

With warnings of severe thunderstorms, hail and possible tornadoes issued for parts of the South, a mother and her daughter were killed when strong winds flipped their trailer Sunday morning in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

The NWS is predicting that this severe weather will then continue in the state on Wednesday. With a strong low-level jet and favorable shear profiles, some of these storms could be supercells with potential for large hail, damaging wind and a few tornadoes. Storm reports from the National Weather Service suggest the death was caused by straight-line winds, not a tornado, but a survey will be necessary to make the final decision. "I hate the spring because we always have these bad storms".

A Texas state trooper reported seeing a suspected tornado touch down early Sunday morning near Center Point, Texas, about 55 miles northwest of San Antonio, Texas.

Radar shows parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia are under the greatest threat today for severe weather.

If you are traveling through the severe weather areas, you'll want to keep a close eye to the weather. A family in Alabama is now doing their best to clear their home before more rain comes after a tree fell on top of it.

Alexander's dad had gone to the grocery store just before the storm occurred and arrived back home to find Gotch and his daughter dead, witnesses told KLFY-TV.
