Claims of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) being tampered with may soon end as the Election Commission is all set to buy next generation EVMs that become "inoperable" the moment anybody tries to manipulate the machines.
The Congress party leaders have also said that they would approach the Election Commission for an inquiry. AAP said, "EC has completely failed in its duty to protect the EVMs and the integrity of the election process and therefore failed in fulfilling its constitutional obligation of conducting free and fair elections". "We have full faith in the Election Commission", Mr. Yadav told reporters at the party headquarters.
Both parties filed complaints with the election commission following reports of EVM malfunction in Madhya Pradesh where VVPAT machines allegedly dispensed slips of only BJP symbol during a demonstration exercise.
The by-polls are scheduled to be held in Ater and Bandhavgarh assembly constituencies next week.
The EC said that it has also made a decision to depute two teams of officers of the panel along with technical experts to ensure the correct functioning of EVMs and VVPATs (voter verified paper audit trial) being deployed in the two assembly constituencies.
The AAP then submitted a letter to the ECI, in which it stated that they had reached to the conclusion that there had been large-scale rigging through tampering of EVMs. The slip drops in a box but the voter can not take it home.
Why Is Twitter Ditching The Egg Avatar?
Racial slurs, homophobic language, "ablest" slurs, and sexist language have all slipped through Twitter's new censorship feature. Twitter has made a big show about trying to solve the seemingly endless amount of abuse and targeted harassment on its platform.
It said the poll panel would send "a team of high-level officers" to Madhya Pradesh "to ensure the correct functioning" of voting machines and the voter-verified paper audit trail machines that briefly show a slip with the symbol of the party voted for.
It said the EVMs used by ECI are "stand-alone machines" and that most systems used in other countries were computer-based and controlled using the Internet, making it vulnerable to hacking.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the Election Commission to investigate cases of "faulty" EVMs and ascertain if their software can be tweaked "in favour of the BJP".
"The incident in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district was not the only one". She was also seen laughing on the matter and warning the journalists that they would face police detention if they publish the report.
VVPAT is an independent verification system fitted to EVMs to allow voters to verify that their vote was cast correctly.
