BS III vehicles: Telangana dealers panic, push vehicle sales; offer discounts

Two days after the Supreme Court banned the sale of vehicles that are non BS-III compliant, two-wheeler dealers are offering major discounts in a bid to dispose off their remaining stocks.

A senior official of the transport department said: "In the city limits, registration of BS III transport vehicles (buses, lorries, etc) were stopped long back. Basically these fake sales are being done to ensure that they can be registered when they are resold to customers".

"The decision by Hon'ble Supreme Court to ban sale of all BSIII vehicles from April 1, 2017 is an unexpected and unprecedented move that will have a material impact on the entire automotive industry, OEM's and dealer network", the company statement read.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), which had at first provided a flat discount of Rs 10,000 on its BS-III scooters and bikes boosted it to Rs 22,000 later on in the day.

Industry estimates said the total value of the vehicles likely to be impacted by the ban will amount to Rs 20,000 crore. The CB Shine is available at a discount of Rs. 18,300, while the Dream Yuga and Livo are being offered at a price cut of Rs. 18,500. Suzuki is offering discounts and offers up to Rs 5,000 while Bajaj is offering discounts ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 12,000, both on select models. They're also offering ₹ 12,000 off on the Dio.
